A 2015 view of an Operating Theatre at the 'Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital', adjacent to the very popular 'Australia Zoo'. Australia Zoo, the home of 'Steve Irwin' the 'Crocodile Hunter', is located on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast, a short distance North from Brisbane, on Steve Irwin Way. Steve Irwin accidentally died on September 4th 2006, after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb, while filming an underwater documentary film titled 'Ocean's Deadliest'.
The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, opened in 2004 and is a major project of Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors. As the hospital’s major sponsor, Australia Zoo provided the land on which the Hospital was built and donated a contribution to assist with its construction. Australia Zoo also provides ongoing financial support for the Hospital annually, fulfilling Steve’s wish that all of the charity’s administration costs be covered, so that 100% of donations could be applied directly to saving Australian wildlife. It is a charity that Steve Irwin felt passionately about and the conservation and care of all wildlife as well as local animals.
